Facts: The second-largest wild cats (losing out to tigers), lions are predatory felines living throughout central and south Africa. Historically, their range was far greater, encompassing all of Africa and much of Europe and Asia. Though often known as "king of the jungle", lions generally live in savanna environments. They are widely recognized by the distinctive mane possessed by males, and their deep roar. Unlike most other cats, lions hunt animals primarily not by speed or stealth, but by preying on the old and weak. A group of lions is called a pride, and usually consists of one or two males and several females. Male lions weigh significantly more than females, averaging 415 pounds and 285 pounds, respectively. African safaris often include sightings of lions. The animal known as the mountain lion is, in fact, a puma. (Facts from Wikipedia - Lion)
