Facts: Cheetahs are well known for their incredible speed. In short bursts, a cheetah can run up to 62 mph. Smaller than the more dominant lions, they catch prey by being fast, rather than hunting in packs. A cheetah's spots are a famously recognizable characteristic. Cheetahs' habitat includes prairie and thick brush areas throughout eastern and southern Africa. Though they are usually grouped with big cats, Cheetahs share many features with smaller cats; for instance, they can purr, but not roar. The IUCN lists Cheetahs as a vulnerable species: only about 12,400 are still found in the wild. (facts from Wikipedia.org - Cheetah)
